About Course
Objective
In this module you will learn:
- Evolution of SQL Server in Azure.
- Differentiate which deployment option is best for workloads for the organization.
- Choosing the purchasing models, service tiers, and hardware that best fit a workload.
Prerequisites
- Fundamentals of SQL
Eligibility
- Graduates and undergraduates who want to learn to maintain SQL Azure databases and architects that want to learn to leverage SQL Azure in their applications.
Modules
Module 1: Introduction
In this module, you’ll learn
- A brief history of why and how Microsoft built Azure SQL.
- Various deployment options and service tiers, including what to use for the organization, and when.
- Some of the options include Azure SQL Database
- Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server in an Azure virtual machine.
Understanding what platform as a service (PaaS) encompasses and how it compares to a traditional SQL Server environment will help you understand what you do and don’t get when you move to the cloud.
Module 2: Azure SQL deployment options
In this module, you will cover some of the considerations you need to make when you choose various Azure SQL deployment options.
This module focuses on some of the technical specifications for each of these options.
The deployment options discussed here include
- SQL Server on virtual machines
- Azure SQL Managed Instance
- Azure SQL Database
- Azure SQL Managed Instance pools
- Azure SQL Database elastic database pools.
Module 3: SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines
- Integrate your virtual machines to on-premises networks by using Azure virtual networks.
- Understanding the difference between IaaS Vs. PaaS
- Versionless Database Services
- SQL Managed Assistance
- SQL Database and Elastic Database pool.
Module 4: Purchasing models, service tiers, and hardware choices
- This module is an overview of how to choose pricing model and when to choose them
Module 5: Management interfaces for Azure SQL
- Introduction to Azure portal, SQL server management studio, Azure Data Studio. This module focuses on language and APIs, and command line interfaces.
Module 6: Summary Class
Outcome
After completing this course, you will have a foundational knowledge of what to use when and how to configure, secure, monitor, and troubleshoot Azure SQL.
